Centrifuge Machine
A Centrifuge Machine is a broader term for the bench-top or floor-standing unit used for sample separation in a medical laboratory. As distinct from the internal motor, the term "machine" encompasses the entire device: the outer casing, lid lock, display and controls, refrigeration system (if included), rotor, and balancing mechanisms.
These machines are constructed with robust steel housings and safety interlocking lids to prevent opening while the rotor is in motion. Controls allow the user to adjust speed (RPM) and time. In blood banking, refrigerated centrifuges are often preferred to keep blood components at a safe processing temperature. The machine is rated by the maximum carrying capacity it can accommodate, such as the number of donor blood bags or the volume of tubes per cycle.
