ESR Stands
An ESR Stand is a rack designed to support Westergren tubes in a strictly vertical position for the Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) test. The ESR measures how quickly red blood cells settle in a blood sample over one hour. The tube must be perfectly vertical, as any tilt will produce a falsely elevated reading.
ESR stands are typically cast metal or heavy acrylic bases with three or more adjustable leveling feet. A top platform holds the glass pipettes with a spring or clip locking system at zero marks, while a rubber pad at the base seals the bottom tip against leakage. Stands are available in different capacities, holding anywhere from three to twenty tubes at a time, and feature scribed alignment marks to ensure absolute vertical positioning.
